Honda TimingBelt Replacement
Honda timing belt replacement at PRO SERVICE (Batumi, Airport Highway 212): first we confirm if your engine has a belt or a chain. Then we replace the full kit — belt, pulleys, tensioner and, as a rule, the water pump. Labor from … GEL, time 4-8 hours. Parts are billed separately.
Belt or chain: how to tell on a Honda
There is no single answer for Honda: some engines use a belt, others a chain.
- The V6 engines are usually belt-driven. They are found in the Pilot, Odyssey, Ridgeline, Accord V6 and a number of Acura models — the cars where a scheduled belt job matters most.
- Many 4-cylinder engines in recent Civic, CR-V, Accord and Jazz/Fit generations use a chain. A chain is not replaced on a schedule; it is checked when it gets noisy or throws timing codes.
- Older 4-cylinder Hondas were often belt-driven.
Quick self-check: look at the service book or the under-hood label. A belt engine has a plastic cover at the front of the engine, a chain engine has a metal cover. The reliable way is the VIN: we identify the engine and the exact Honda schedule before any work starts.
Why a Honda V6 gets the full kit
- The water pump on these engines is usually driven by the timing belt. Replacing it later means paying for the same teardown twice.
- The hydraulic tensioner tends to seep and sag with age — we check it and replace it if it shows oil.
- These engines are considered interference engines: if the belt snaps, valves usually hit the pistons. A cylinder head repair costs far more than a planned belt job.
- Cam and crank seals: if they weep, we replace them now, otherwise oil quickly ruins the new belt.
How we do it
- Check the engine and the Honda schedule by VIN. On many models the Maintenance Minder system flags when the belt is due.
- Remove the engine mount and covers, set the engine to the factory timing marks.
- Replace belt, pulleys, tensioner, water pump and seals where needed.
- Turn the crank by hand, recheck the marks, refill coolant and bleed the air.
- Start-up, leak and fault code check. If a valve adjustment is due on the schedule, it is convenient to do it in the same visit.

FAQ
How much is a timing belt replacement on a Honda Pilot or Odyssey?
Labor from … GEL. The parts kit depends on the engine and on OEM vs aftermarket; we quote it by VIN before starting.
Does my Civic or CR-V have a belt too?
It depends on the generation and engine. Many modern 4-cylinder Hondas have a chain. Send us the VIN and we will tell you for sure.
The mileage is not due yet, but the car was imported from the US — should I replace it?
If there are no records of a replacement, it is safer to do it: a belt ages with time, not only with mileage.
Can I replace only the belt, without the pump?
You can, but on a Honda V6 the pump sits behind the same cover. If it leaks later, the teardown has to be repeated.
How long does it take?
4-8 hours.
