How the job is done

1. We take off the undertray, ancillaries and covers. On some models the engine mount too.
2. We lock the crankshaft and camshafts at the timing marks or with a dedicated locking tool.
3. We fit the belt, rollers, and the water pump and seals if needed. The belt is tensioned to spec.
4. We turn the crankshaft by hand a few revolutions and check that the marks line up again.
5. We start the engine and check for leaks, unusual noise and timing fault codes.

We also look for oil leaks from the seals and valve cover. Oil eats rubber, and a new belt on an oily engine won't last.
