How a workshop scanner differs from a store-bought adapter
A cheap OBD adapter paired with a phone usually reads only generic engine codes. A multi-brand scanner sees the transmission, ABS, SRS and body electronics modules. It shows parameters live and runs actuator tests: switch on the fan, click an injector, cycle a valve. So we often find faults that were "not there" when the owner checked. How to prepare for the visit
- Don't clear the codes or disconnect the battery. The conditions of the fault are erased along with the code.
- Note when the problem shows up: cold or warm engine, at speed, after refuelling, in the rain.
- Light flashing and engine shaking? Skip long drives under load and tell us in advance.
What affects the final cost
- How many modules the car has and need to be scanned.
- Whether extra checks are needed: compression test, wiring tests, checking sensors with the engine running.
- Whether a test drive is needed to catch an intermittent fault.
Diagnostics and repair under one roof

No. A scanner only sees what the electronics monitor. Mechanical wear, knocks and leaks need an inspection and suspension diagnostics.

The code comes and goes — what should I do?
Intermittent faults often come from connectors, wiring or a sensor that fails only when hot. Come in while the light is on and describe the conditions. The fault is easier to reproduce, and nobody swaps parts on a guess.
