Which Fords and which engines
Georgia has both European Fords (Focus, Fiesta, Mondeo, Kuga, Transit) and US imports (Escape, Fusion, Explorer, F-150). Their engines differ a lot, so the first step is identifying the engine by VIN.
- Duratec / Ti-VCT (naturally aspirated petrol). Some have a timing belt, some a chain. Typical complaints: oil leaks, misfires from coils and plugs, cam timing codes.
- 1.0 EcoBoost. The timing belt on this engine runs in oil. That makes the right oil to Ford spec and an on-time belt change especially important: a disintegrating belt can clog the oil pickup.
- V6 EcoBoost (F-150, Explorer and others). Timing chain stretch and cam phaser wear are a widely known issue: rattle on cold start, cam/crank correlation codes. With these symptoms the chains, tensioners, guides and, as a rule, the phasers are replaced as a set.
- TDCi diesels (Transit, Focus, Mondeo, Kuga). Injectors, EGR, DPF, turbo.
Ford engine oil
Ford has its own oil specifications, and for turbocharged EcoBoost engines they matter. We follow the full spec in the manual for your engine, and viscosity is only one line of it.
