Which transmission does your Ford have

- Manual (Fiesta, Focus, Transit). Most often a worn clutch and release bearing. Diesel versions, especially the Transit, often have a dual-mass flywheel: with a rattle at idle or judder on pull-away it is checked together with the clutch.
- Powershift dual dry-clutch automated gearbox (Fiesta and Focus of certain years, mostly US cars). Its issues are widely known: shudder on pull-away, jerks at low speed, slipping, transmission control unit faults. Escape: we check more than the gearbox
AWD Escape and Kuga have a power transfer unit (PTU) behind the transmission. Its leaks and overheated fluid are a known topic. A hum, a burnt oil smell or a leak behind the gearbox is a reason to check the PTU before talking about rebuilding the automatic.
