ClutchReplacement
Clutch replacement at PRO SERVICE (Batumi, Airport Highway 212): disc, pressure plate, release bearing, and when needed the flywheel and hydraulic cylinders. From … GEL, time 1 working day. Before removing the gearbox we check that the problem is not in the hydraulics.
Signs of a worn clutch
- Slipping: on a hill or when overtaking the revs rise but the speed does not. A burning smell.
- The clutch bites at the very top of the pedal travel — the disc is almost worn out.
- Judder when pulling away — oil on the disc, warped flywheel or pressure plate.
- Noise with the pedal pressed — release bearing; noise with the pedal released — more often the gearbox input shaft bearing.
- Gears grind going in, clutch drag — the pressure plate or hydraulics do not fully disengage.
- Pedal sinks or stays on the floor — master or slave cylinder, fluid leak.
What we replace and why as a kit
Disc, pressure plate and release bearing usually go together. Most of the labor is pulling the gearbox, and paying for that twice makes no sense. We also assess:
- Dual-mass flywheel (on many diesels and powerful petrol engines). A knock when switching the engine off and excessive play are signs of wear.
- Crankshaft and input shaft seals. Oil on a new disc means slipping again unless the leak is fixed.
- Cylinders, hose or cable.
Pedal feels wrong but the clutch doesn't slip? Sometimes a new master or external slave cylinder is enough, with no gearbox removal. A concentric slave cylinder sits inside the bell housing, so it is replaced with the gearbox out — usually together with the clutch kit.
How the job goes
- Checks: slip test in a high gear, bite point, hydraulic leaks.
- Gearbox removal. On all-wheel drive the transfer case and propshaft come off too — so it takes longer and costs more.
- Inspection of flywheel, seals, fork and guide tube; we show you the worn parts.
- Fitting the kit, bleeding the hydraulics, road test.
On Adjara's mountain roads and in Batumi city traffic the clutch works hard — hill starts wear the disc fastest. The dry clutch in DSG gearboxes is replaced with its own procedure and relearn: see DSG repair.

FAQ
How much does a clutch replacement cost?
Labor from … GEL. The price depends on drivetrain, engine and whether the flywheel is needed. Your own parts: …
How long does a clutch last?
Driving style and conditions decide. City traffic and mountains wear it faster, highway driving slower. We go by symptoms, not mileage.
Can you replace just the disc?
Technically yes, but if the pressure plate or release bearing is worn, the gearbox comes out again soon. We decide after inspection.
How long does it take?
1 working day; longer for all-wheel drive or a dual-mass flywheel.
