What Opel owners come in with

- Oil leak from the oil filter housing / oil cooler. On a number of petrol Ecotec engines the oil cooler gasket hardens with age. Oil runs down the block, and in the worst case mixes with coolant — not something to postpone.
- Oil in the spark plug wells and misfires. The valve cover gasket leaks, oil reaches the ignition module and kills it. When we replace the module we always replace the gasket too, or the problem comes back.
- Cold-start rattle and cam timing codes. On some 1.6/1.8 engines these are the cam phaser solenoids or phasers. We start by checking oil level and quality — they are very sensitive to it.
- Coolant leaks from the plastic thermostat housing and hoses.
- CDTI diesels: EGR, intake swirl flaps, DPF, injectors.
The engine computer (ECU)
Many Opel faults show up in the control unit first. We connect a … scanner and read fault codes and live data: fuel trims, cam timing, misfire counters, sensors. A code is a hint, not a diagnosis: a "cylinder 2 misfire" can come from the ignition module, a plug or an injector. If the control unit itself is suspected, we check power, grounds and wiring before talking about ECU repair.
