Starter Motor Repair

Starter MotorRepair

Starter repair at PRO SERVICE (Batumi, Airport Highway 212): we check the starting circuit, remove the starter and replace the solenoid, drive gear, brushes or bushings, or fit a new starter. Repair from … GEL, time 1-2 days.

Symptoms and what usually causes them

  • One click, engine does not turn — solenoid, burnt contacts or a weak battery.
  • Slow cranking — flat or worn battery, corroded terminals, poor ground, worn brushes.
  • Starter whirs but does not engage — drive gear (bendix) or its mechanism.
  • Grinding on start — worn drive gear or flywheel ring teeth.
  • Starter keeps spinning after the engine starts — stuck solenoid. This damages the starter and flywheel; do not drive like this.
  • Starts sometimes, sometimes not — often the control side: ignition switch, relay, gear position or clutch pedal switch, immobilizer.

Ruling out the simple things first

Before removing the starter we load-test the battery and check terminals, main cables and engine ground. If the starter gets no signal, we read fault codes: on cars with push-button start and an immobilizer, the electronics decide whether to crank. That way you do not pay to remove a healthy starter. Short city trips and summer heat wear batteries fast — a common reason for slow cranking.

How we repair it

  • Remove the starter (on some models from below, through the subframe or with the intake manifold lifted, which adds time).
  • Strip and inspect: solenoid, contacts, brushes, armature, bushings, drive gear.
  • Replace worn parts or fit a new starter.
  • Test starting and, after grinding noises, check the flywheel teeth through the inspection window.

FAQ

Repair or replace?

Worn solenoid, brushes or drive gear — repair is usually cheaper. With a damaged armature or housing we will show you why replacement makes more sense.

The starter clicks but my battery is new. Why?

A new battery can still be drained by a parasitic draw, and terminals and grounds can be corroded. We check the whole circuit, starter included.

Can I push-start the car?

Sometimes with a manual, never with an automatic or CVT. A tow or call-out is safer: …

How long does it take?

1-2 days if parts are in stock.
