Signs your battery is getting weak

• The starter cranks slowly, especially in the morning or after parking.
• The dashboard dims while cranking, the clock and radio reset.
• The car won't start after a few days parked.
• Start-stop has stopped switching the engine off at lights.
• A swollen case, white deposits on the terminals, an old battery.

Test first, then buy

A new one won't help if the alternator isn't charging it or current leaks while parked. So we:

• run a load test and assess its health;
• measure charging voltage with the engine running;

Which battery you need

• Capacity and cold cranking amps — per your car's spec, not lower.
• Polarity and size — so cables reach without strain and the battery is secured.
• Type. Start-stop cars usually need AGM or EFB: a standard battery fails quickly there.

How we replace it

• Connect a memory saver so settings and radio codes are kept (where possible).
• Remove the old unit, clean the terminals and tray.
• Fit the new one, tighten the hold-down and terminals.
• On some models (especially German) we register the new one with the control unit — without it the charging system treats it incorrectly.
• Check charging and fault codes.
