Power SteeringRepair
Power steering repair at PRO SERVICE (Batumi, Airport Highway 212): we check the pump, hoses, reservoir, drive belt and fluid, find the source of the whine or leak and fix it. Pump work from … GEL, power steering fluid change from … GEL, takes 2-4 hours. If the rack itself is leaking, that is a separate job — steering rack repair.
Signs of power steering trouble
- Whine or groan when turning the wheel, especially when cold or at full lock.
- Heavy steering at low speed and when parking, normal on the move.
- Steering that jerks between light and heavy.
- Foam or dark, cloudy fluid in the reservoir, a burnt smell.
- Oily residue on hoses, on the pump, under the car.
- Belt squeal when turning — the belt slips under pump load.
Where the problem usually comes from
- Low fluid level. The pump starts drawing air, hence foam and whine. Topping up is only half the job: we need to find where it goes.
- High-pressure hose. Rubber cracks with age and crimped fittings start to seep. In the humid sea climate metal lines and clamps also rust.
- The pump. Worn vanes, bearing or relief valve — no pressure, heavy steering.
- Old fluid. It darkens, loses its properties and collects metal particles. A regular change is often not in the schedule, but some manufacturers recommend it.
- Drive belt and tensioner — if the pump is belt-driven.
How we do it
- Fluid level and condition check, hoses and connections inspected on the lift.
- Belt and tensioner check, listening to the pump.
- Locating the leak: pump, hoses or rack.
- Replacing the worn part, flushing the system if it is contaminated.
- Filling with the fluid the manufacturer specifies (ATF or a dedicated fluid — never mix), bleeding the air out.
- Leak check under pressure and a test drive.
Hydraulic or electric
Many modern cars use electric power steering (EPS) or an electro-hydraulic pump instead. There is no belt and often no fluid, so faults are traced with a scanner and a check of the power supply and wiring. We will tell you which system your car has at the inspection and what can be done with it.

FAQ
Why does my power steering whine?
Most often low fluid and air in the system, less often a worn pump. We check the level and look for the leak first.
Can I drive with a power steering leak?
Not for long. A pump that runs dry fails quickly, and the steering can turn heavy without warning.
Which fluid should go in?
The one the manufacturer specifies: on the reservoir cap or in the manual. Different types must not be mixed.
How much does power steering repair cost?
From … GEL for pump work; the total depends on what exactly has failed. You get an estimate before we start.
Why is the steering heavy only when cold?
The fluid thickens in the cold, and a worn pump cannot build pressure at that moment. Even if it is fine once warm, it is worth checking the pump and fluid before it fails completely.
