Shock Absorber Replacement

Shock AbsorberReplacement

Shock absorber replacement at PRO SERVICE (Batumi, Airport Highway 212): we replace front struts and rear shocks in pairs per axle and check the mounts, boots, bump stops and springs. Labor from … GEL each, takes 1-3 hours per axle. Bring your own parts or we source them by VIN.

Signs of worn shocks

  • The body keeps bouncing after a bump and takes a while to settle.
  • The nose dives under braking and the car squats when accelerating.
  • A dull knock over potholes, especially at the front.
  • Oil leaking down the shock body.
  • Cupped, patchy tire wear — the wheel loses contact with the road.
  • More body roll in corners and on switchbacks than before.

Worn shocks stretch your braking distance and make the car twitchy on wet roads — and Batumi gets a lot of rain.

Why in pairs

A new shock on the left and an old one on the right don't act the same. The car pulls under braking and in corners. So both on one axle go together. If the other one still looks fine, it's your call. We'll show you what shape it's in.

How we do it

  1. Suspension check: leaks, mounts, springs, sway bar links.
  2. Removing the strut or shock, compressing the spring.
  3. Checking the strut mount (top bearing), boot and bump stop — worn ones are replaced at the same time so the unit is not taken apart twice.
  4. Reassembly, torque to the manufacturer's spec with the suspension loaded.
  5. Test drive.

On some models a front strut swap moves the wheel angles, and then you need a wheel alignment. We'll say so up front if your car is one of them.

What affects the price

  • Suspension type: MacPherson strut, multi-link, air or adaptive shocks.
  • Front or rear: rear shocks are simpler to change on many cars.
  • Seized bolts — common in a sea climate.
  • Whether mounts, boots or springs also need replacing.

FAQ

How much does shock absorber replacement cost?

Labor from … GEL each. The total depends on the axle, the suspension type and the parts. You get an exact figure after inspection.

Can I replace just one shock?

You can. But a pair per axle is the right way, or the car handles unevenly.

Do you repair shock absorbers?

Most factory shocks are sealed and get replaced. For rebuildable ones, ask us at ….

How can I tell a leaking shock from a dirty one?

A fresh leak is an oily film with dust stuck to it on the shock body. We confirm it on inspection.

Gas or oil shocks — which to choose?

Gas-charged shocks fade less from heat on long switchbacks. Oil shocks are usually softer and cheaper. We fit the type the manufacturer specifies unless you want a different ride.

How long will it take?

1-3 hours per axle if the parts are in stock.
