Control ArmReplacement
Control arm replacement at PRO SERVICE (Batumi, Airport Highway 212): we replace front and rear, upper and lower control arms after an impact or when the joints are worn. Labor from … GEL per arm, takes 1-2 hours. After replacement we do a wheel alignment.
When an arm needs replacing
- Bent after hitting a pothole or curb: the steering wheel is off-center, the car pulls, the wheel visibly leans.
- Cracks or corrosion — seen on imported cars and in a sea climate, especially on stamped steel arms.
- Worn bushings and ball joint on a non-serviceable design: on many modern cars the arm is sold only as an assembly.
- Knocking and wheel shimmy under braking and acceleration.
Complete arm or separate parts
There are two ways:
- Replace the whole arm — faster, all joints are new. The logical choice if the ball joint is pressed in or the arm is bent.
- Replace only the bushings or the ball joint — when the arm itself is fine and the parts are sold separately.
Which is better value for your car we will tell you after inspection — it depends on the design and part prices.
How we do it
- Inspection: arm geometry, joints, subframe mounting points.
- Removing the wheel, disconnecting the ball joint, sway bar link and any sensors mounted on the arm.
- Removal — seized arm bolts are common, we heat them if needed.
- Fitting the new arm. Bushing bolts are tightened with the car on its wheels: if tightened in the air, the rubber is twisted and tears quickly.
- Wheel alignment — the wheel angles always change after an arm is replaced.
If several parts are bent
After a hard impact the tie rod, wheel rim and sometimes the subframe often suffer along with the arm. If the alignment cannot be brought into spec, a body geometry check is needed.

FAQ
How much does control arm replacement cost?
Labor from … GEL per arm, the part is extra. Multi-link rear suspension usually costs more.
Can a bent arm be straightened?
We do not recommend it: straightened metal loses strength, and the arm is a safety part.
Should arms be replaced in pairs?
Not necessarily. If the other arm is fine, we replace only the damaged one.
Aluminum control arm — what is different?
Aluminum arms are lighter, but after an impact they tend to crack rather than bend, and the mounting bolts can suffer galvanic corrosion in a sea climate. A crack in aluminum is not always visible — we check carefully, especially after a hard curb strike.
Is an alignment required after replacement?
Yes. Without it the car will pull and wear tires fast.
