Wheel Bearing Replacement

Wheel BearingReplacement

Wheel bearing replacement at PRO SERVICE (Batumi, Airport Highway 212): we find exactly which wheel hums. Then we replace the bearing by pressing or swap the complete hub unit — depending on your car's design. Labor from … GEL per wheel, takes 1-3 hours.

Signs of wear

  • A hum or whine that grows with speed. It sounds like tire noise but does not change with the road surface.
  • The hum changes in corners: it gets louder when the worn bearing is loaded.
  • Wheel play when rocking it at the top and bottom.
  • The wheel spins with a rumble or unevenly.
  • An ABS warning: on many cars the speed sensor reads a magnetic ring on the bearing, and bearing wear causes faults.

Why it is important not to confuse it

A bearing hum is easy to mistake for tire noise, especially with cupped or feathered tread. And clicking in turns usually comes from the CV joint, not the hub. So diagnosis comes first: test drive, check on the lift, and if needed listening to the spinning wheels. We replace only what is actually worn.

Design types

  • Separate bearing — pressed into the steering knuckle. Requires removing the knuckle and a press; the bearing itself is cheaper.
  • Hub unit — bearing, flange and often the ABS ring as one bolt-on unit. Faster to replace, the part costs more.
  • Rear hub with drum or disc — on some cars the bearing sits in the drum or the hub, designs vary.

Wheel bearings are usually replaced one at a time: the other one on the same axle may still be fine. We will show you its play and noise.

How we do it

  1. Finding the wheel: test drive, play and rotation check.
  2. Removing the wheel, caliper, disc, axle nut and ABS sensor.
  3. Pressing out the old bearing or removing the hub.
  4. Pressing in the new bearing through the correct race so the tracks are not damaged.
  5. Reassembly, torquing the axle nut to the manufacturer's spec, ABS check, test drive.

If the steering knuckle was removed, we check the angles and do a wheel alignment if needed.

FAQ

How much does wheel bearing replacement cost?

Labor from … GEL per wheel. A pressed bearing and a hub unit are priced differently; the part is extra.

How long can I drive with a humming bearing?

Not long. A faint hum gives you some time, but once play appears, the bearing can overheat and seize, damaging the knuckle and hub.

Why did the bearing wear out quickly?

Pothole impacts, water in the bearing, improper pressing, aftermarket wheels with a different offset.

Do bearings need replacing in pairs?

No. Each bearing is replaced by its own condition; we check the one on the other side and show you the result.
