Suspension Bushing Replacement

Suspension BushingReplacement

Suspension bushing replacement at PRO SERVICE (Batumi, Airport Highway 212): we press the old rubber-metal bushings out of control arms, the subframe or the rear beam and press new ones in. Labor from … GEL per bushing, takes 1-3 hours. A wheel alignment follows.

What a bushing is and why it wears

A bushing is a rubber (or polyurethane) sleeve between two metal shells. It connects the control arm to the body and absorbs small vibrations. The rubber ages from load, temperature swings, dirt and water. In Batumi, add potholes, cobblestones and humid sea air.

Signs of wear

  • A dull knock or creak over bumps, especially at low speed.
  • The car pulls under braking or when lifting off the throttle.
  • Vague steering, the car does not hold a straight line as well.
  • Uneven tire wear — the wheel changes angle under load.
  • On inspection: cracks, torn rubber, rubber squeezed out of the shell, the arm moves under a pry bar.

How we do it

  1. Inspection: which bushings exactly are worn — front, rear, arm, subframe, rear beam.
  2. Removing the arm (on some cars bushings can be changed in place, but press quality is usually worse).
  3. Pressing the old bushing out on a press, cleaning the seat.
  4. Pressing the new one in with correct orientation — many bushings have voids in the rubber, and position matters.
  5. Fitting the arm and tightening the bolts with the car on its wheels.
  6. Wheel alignment.

Bushings or the whole arm?

If the arm is steel and intact and the bushings are sold separately, replacing only them is usually cheaper. If the arm is rusty, bent or has a worn non-replaceable ball joint, it makes more sense to replace the arm as an assembly. We will price both options.

Rubber or polyurethane

Polyurethane is stiffer and usually lasts longer, but transmits more vibration into the cabin. Rubber is the factory option and quieter. It depends on your priorities; we will tell you what is available for your model.

FAQ

How much does bushing replacement cost?

Labor from … GEL each. The total depends on how many, access, and whether the subframe has to come off.

Can I drive with worn bushings?

For a while, yes, but tire and ball joint wear grows and handling gets worse. A badly worn bushing is a safety issue.

Why did new bushings tear quickly?

Most often the bolts were tightened with the suspension hanging. We tighten only under load.

Can you replace one bushing instead of all of them?

Yes, if the rest are fine. But bushings on the same arm usually age at the same rate, so we will show you their condition and let you decide.

Is an alignment needed after replacement?

Yes, the arm position changes.
