Brake DiscReplacement
Brake disc replacement at PRO SERVICE (Batumi, Airport Highway 212): we measure thickness and runout, decide whether to replace, machine or keep the discs. We replace them in pairs per axle together with the pads. Price from … GEL per axle, takes 1-2 hours. Discs and pads are charged separately. Your own parts: ….
When a disc needs replacing
- Below minimum thickness. The minimum is stamped on the disc itself (often as "MIN TH") or listed in the manufacturer's data. We measure with a micrometer at several points.
- Runout. The steering wheel or pedal shakes when braking from speed — the disc has warped from heat.
- Deep grooves and a lip at the edge. New pads only partly contact such a disc and brake worse.
- Blue spots, cracks — signs of overheating, replacement only.
- Heavy corrosion. After a long stand in humid sea air the braking surface gets pitted, which goes deeper than a light film.
Rust: when it is normal
An orange film on the discs after a rainy night or a car wash is normal and wears off in the first few stops. It is a problem when rust stays in patches on the braking surface, the brakes squeal and the car pulls. This happens more with rear discs and with cars that are rarely driven: the pads do not clean the surface. In that case we also check the calipers — a seized slide pin gives the same effect.
How we replace them
- Remove wheels, calipers, brackets and old discs.
- Clean the hub face down to bare metal: on a dirty hub even a new disc will run out.
- Fit new discs and pads in pairs per axle, lubricate the slide pins.
- Check hoses, pistons and caliper boots.
- Pump up the pedal, check the fluid, test drive and bed-in.
Types of discs
Vented discs (with internal channels) are usually at the front, solid discs at the rear. There are also drilled and slotted discs: they shed gas and water better but are noisier and wear pads faster. For daily driving around Batumi and on Adjara's mountain roads, good-quality discs of the original type are usually enough. Some cars have rear drums — we service them the same way: measure, check the wheel cylinders, replace.

FAQ
How much does disc and pad replacement cost?
Labor from … GEL for discs and from … GEL for pads per axle. Parts prices depend on the model.
Can I replace just one disc?
No, only in pairs per axle, otherwise the car will pull to one side under braking.
Do pads have to be replaced with the discs?
Yes, old pads have the wear pattern of the old disc and will not seat on a new one.
The steering wheel shakes when braking — is it the discs?
Most often yes, but suspension problems can feel similar. We check disc runout first, then the suspension.
What happens if I keep driving on worn discs?
A thin disc overheats and warps faster, stopping distance grows, and with worn-out pads metal cuts into the disc even more. The repair ends up costing more.
