Brake Pad Replacement

Brake PadReplacement

Brake pad replacement at PRO SERVICE (Batumi, Airport Highway 212): we remove the wheels, check the discs, calipers and brake fluid, fit new pads and lubricate the slides. Price from … GEL per axle, takes 1-2 hours. Pads and discs are charged separately.

Signs of wear

  • Squeal or whistle when braking — on many cars this is the built-in wear indicator.
  • Metal grinding — the pads are worn to the backing plate and the disc is already suffering.
  • Vibration in the steering wheel or pedal when braking — the disc may be warped.
  • The pedal feels softer, the braking distance has grown.
  • The car pulls to one side when braking.

Adjara specifics

Switchbacks and long descents overheat the brakes. City traffic adds constant stop-and-go. Pads and discs wear faster here than on flat highways. Engine braking on descents helps, and so does fresh brake fluid.

How we do it

  • Inspection of pads, discs, calipers, hoses.
  • Replacing the pads on the axle as a pair, cleaning and lubricating the slides.
  • Disc replacement or machining if wear or runout is beyond tolerance.
  • Checking the level and condition of the brake fluid.
  • Check after the work: a test drive.
  • If there are vibrations and pulling — suspension diagnostics.

Front and rear pads

The front brakes do most of the work, so their pads usually wear out first. Rear pads last longer but have their own quirks. Some cars have drums at the rear, and on cars with an electronic parking brake the caliper pistons are retracted with a scanner in service mode. Forcing them back can damage the mechanism. We check pad thickness on both axles even if you came in with a squeal at the front. More on intervals and warning signs in when to replace brake pads.

What affects the cost

  • Axle and brake type: discs or drums, one axle or both.
  • Electronic parking brake: the caliper must be put into service mode.
  • Condition of the slides and caliper: moisture and road salt make them seize, so they need cleaning or repair.
  • Wear sensor: on many models it is single-use and replaced with the pads.
  • Pad grade — genuine or aftermarket, ….

After the replacement

For the first stretch, brake gently and skip hard stops from speed. The pads need to bed in to the disc. Braking may feel a bit weak on the first drives.

FAQ

How much does brake pad replacement cost?

From … GEL per axle. The price of the pads depends on the model.

Why do new pads squeal?

Usually bedding in, or slides that weren't lubricated. Done right, it goes away fast.

Do I need to replace the discs together with the pads?

Not always. If the disc is within the thickness tolerance and has no runout, it can stay.

How long will I wait?

1-2 hours.

Why do front pads wear faster than the rear ones?

Braking throws the car's weight forward, so the front brakes do most of the work. On some modern cars the stability system uses the rear brakes a lot, so faster rear wear can be normal. It can also mean a sticking caliper or parking brake, so we check both.
