Can I fix it myself with a touch-up pen or shop polish?

A pen seals bare metal against rust, but the blob of paint stays visible up close. Hand polish removes only the lightest marks and easily leaves a hazy spot.

Someone keyed the whole side — does it all need repainting?

Not necessarily. Marks in the clear coat need only polishing. Deep ones mean repainting the damaged panels and blending into the neighboring panels where needed.

Why you should not leave it

Batumi is humid and close to the sea. Once a scratch reaches bare metal, a rusty film forms on the exposed edge fast. Then corrosion creeps under the paint and lifts it into bubbles. A small touch-up turns into sanding and repainting a much larger area. A scratch that stays in the clear coat doesn't rust, but it collects dirt and looks worse after every wash.

What affects the price

Depth: clear coat, base color, primer or bare metal.
Length and number of scratches, one panel or several.
The panel itself: plastic bumper, steel door, or a highly visible hood or roof.
Color: metallic, pearl and three-layer paints take more work to match.
A blend of the new paint into the neighboring panel.

How to check the result

Look at the panel in daylight and at a low angle. There should be no trace of the scratch, no dull patch and no holograms, the rainbow swirls a polisher leaves when the job is rushed. On a touched-up area you shouldn't feel a step under your finger or see a gloss difference. If anything bothers you, say so at handover and the technician will look at it on the spot.
