Ford Transit: the van body
The Transit is a work vehicle, and its body suffers in its own way.
- Large flat side panels. A dent in a van side is visible from far away, and spot painting on a large flat area needs a careful blend or the edge shows. Some dents without paint damage can be removed without painting.
- Sliding door. We straighten and paint the lower door and check its track and rollers: after a hit the door often starts closing hard.
- Rust. On older Transits the typical spots are the door bottoms (especially the rear barn doors and the sliding door), wheel arches, sills and the step, plus body seams. Batumi's humid sea climate speeds corrosion up.
- Rear bumper and step often take the hit during loading and reversing.
- Downtime costs money. For a work van we plan the order of work to keep it off the road as little as possible; it can be done in stages.
Ford Focus Mk2: where to look for rust
On the second-generation Focus, owner experience points to the rear wheel arches, sills and lower door edges. Rust often starts unnoticed under plastic trim and mud flaps and shows outside only when the paint bubbles. We also check the tailgate and the bumper mounting points.
Galvanizing: what to expect
Some Ford body panels have a zinc coating, but it is not something to rely on fully. Zinc does not help where the paint is broken (a chip, a scratch to bare metal, a poor previous repair) or at welded seams. That is why after repair we restore the rust protection of hidden cavities.

No, the rust will come back through in a few months. It has to be opened to bare metal, the rotten part cut out and a repair section welded in.
Where do I find the Ford paint code?
Usually on the plate in the driver's door opening. If it is missing, we match it by VIN and a sample.
