DriveshaftRepair
Driveshaft repair at PRO SERVICE (Batumi, Airport Highway 212): we trace vibration or clunks and replace what is worn — U-joints, center support bearing, flex disc. U-joint replacement from … GEL, center bearing from … GEL, time 3-5 hours.
How to tell the driveshaft is the problem
- Vibration that grows with speed, felt through the floor and seats rather than the steering wheel. A shaking wheel more often points to the wheels.
- A metallic click or clunk when pulling away or switching sharply from throttle to brake — play in a U-joint or the splines.
- Hum or rumble under the middle of the car — center support bearing.
- Vibration on acceleration that disappears off the throttle — worn center support or driveshaft joints (some models use CV joints instead of U-joints).
- Squeak at low speed — a dry U-joint.
Rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive cars have a driveshaft. On front-wheel-drive cars similar symptoms usually come from the CV joints — that is a different job.
What we check
- On the lift: play in U-joints and splines, the center bearing and its rubber, cracks in the flex disc (guibo).
- Alignment marks and balance weights. If the shaft was removed before and refitted out of phase, vibration is almost guaranteed.
- Engine and gearbox mounts: a sagging mount changes driveshaft angles and causes similar vibration.
- Gearbox, transfer case and differential seals where the shaft enters.
Repair or replace the shaft
On most cars U-joints, the center bearing and the flex disc are replaced individually, without a new shaft. If the shaft is bent — for example after hitting a rock on a dirt road — or vibration remains after new parts, it needs straightening and balancing or a complete replacement. We decide after inspection.
Before removal we always mark the shaft so it goes back in the same position, and torque the fasteners to spec.

FAQ
Can I drive with driveshaft vibration?
Briefly and gently. A failed U-joint can drop the shaft while driving — damage to the underbody and gearbox and a real crash risk.
Why did vibration start after a clutch or gearbox job?
Most often the shaft was refitted out of phase or the bolts were not torqued. Quick to check.
Does the whole driveshaft need replacing?
Usually not — U-joints, center bearing and flex disc are what wear. The whole shaft only if it is bent or the splines are worn.
How long does it take?
3-5 hours; longer if parts have to be ordered.
